Who already lives here, and how much dog experience you have.

    Some breeds are naturally more patient and forgiving with young children.

  2. Do you have other pets? Select all that apply

    Select every animal already living with you. This rules out breeds that get along poorly with cats in particular.

  3. How much experience do you have with dogs? (required question)

    An independent or very energetic breed can overwhelm a first-time owner. Conversely, a seasoned handler will soon find an overly compliant dog limiting.

Your rhythm and your budget

The time and the money you can put in, honestly.

  1. What monthly budget do you have in mind? (required question)

    Covers food, routine vet care, worming, parasite treatments and gear. Large breeds cost significantly more (food, care, treatments). A tight budget caps the size at 12 kg, a moderate budget at 25 kg; above 100 €/month, the answer no longer affects the selection.

  2. How much time a day can you give your dog? (required question)

    Counts walks, play, training and simply being around. An independent breed copes better with long stretches alone.

  3. How much physical activity do you want to share with your dog? (required question)

    A Border Collie will be frustrated in a household of 30-minute walks; an English Bulldog will be gasping on a 20 km trail.

    Pick the criteria that genuinely matter. Selecting too many dilutes the signal — stick to 2-3 priorities.

    Hair, large size and allergies are strict filters (they rule out the breeds concerned). Barking and grooming weigh heavily on the score without ruling anything out.

  3. How much time will you put into coat care? (required question)

    A Poodle or a Bichon left ungroomed turns into a mat of tangles. A short-coated breed needs no more than a weekly brush.

  4. How much closeness are you looking for? (required question)

    Some breeds (Akita, Chow Chow, primitive sighthounds) are aloof and self-sufficient. Others (Cavalier, Golden) seek contact constantly.
